The Otlet index takes your activity on the platform and turns your collaborations it into a source of reputation. It is calculated based on the samples you contribute, the requests you post, and how you interact with other researchers in the Otlet community.
Our algorithm is calculated based on weighted totals of your activity on the following platform features:
OI = ∑ NS(0-9), SP*0.5, RQ*2, EN*2, RE*2, SH*0.2
Samples Contributed (NS) – this is the total number of samples you have uploaded onto the platform. The index includes points from the following graduated scale based on the number of samples you have uploaded:
Species Contributed (SP) – the number of different species you have uploaded onto the platform. Your index includes a weighted total = SP*0.5.
Requests (RQ) - the total number of requests you have posted on the platform. Your index a weighted total = RQ*2.
Enquiries sent (EN) –the number of total enquires you have received on the platform. Your index includes a weighted total = EN*2.
Enquiries complete (RE) – this is the total number of sample requests you have responded to on the platform. Your index includes a weighted total = RE*2.
Shared samples & requests (SH) – the total number of both samples and requests shared with colleagues off the platform, using the “share” function. Your index includes a weighted total = SH*0.2
